Defense Policy of the Peoples Republic of China
Defense Policy of the Peoples Republic of China
Some thoughts on China's Defense Policy:
One of the key parts of China's Defense Policy is to oppose and contain "Taiwan Independence" This is a key concern for China in the Asia region as it seeks to control the region.
China mentions it opposes foreign interference in Taiwan. This is an indirect reference to the United States support for Taiwan.
China says it reserves the right to use force to protect Chinese Unity in regard to Taiwan.
China seeks to continue its crackdown on independence movements in Tibet and to crack down on any possible creation of "East Turkistan"
China's defense policy specifically mentions that the South China Sea islands are an "Inalienable Part of the Chinese Territory"
China specifically by name mentions the Diaoyu Islands as it's highly strategic for the control of the East China Sea.
China mentions in this policy that it reserves the right to build infrastructure on these islands.
One part I find really interesting is this line "Though a country may become strong, bellicosity will lead to its ruin." I find this to be an interesting representation of how China perceives conflict. China prefers the long-term approach to its adversaries and regional threats. China typically will pursue a longer-term strategy by this I mean the United States Security Policy is released under every American Administration for a few years as where the Chinese will release Defense Policies that will cover a more long-term strategy for Chinese ambitions.
(This wasn't a full review of the strategy just a few things that really caught my attention.)
